Epilogue

“Ilike this body on you,” I purr, touching the former air king. He is a stunning example of a male with his light blond hair that curls and olive skin, hiding muscles and a flat, toned stomach. I’m interested in what lies below too. Ares looks at me with bright red eyes, which will fade soon into the pretty green of the air king. The stupid princess didn’t see any of it coming, and it was so much sweeter that way. I went to the West the second the air king killed Ares, knowing I needed a distraction. The tsar was difficult to persuade since the male is in love with his wife and therefore hard to seduce. I seduced him anyway, for fun, the task more satisfying when I rode him.

My power was pointless against the fury in his heart though. I told him the secret truth about the god who lives in the spirit castle and how that god destroyed his family so many years ago. It shocked him, and I taught him the magic that was just waiting under his skin to be used. After that, I did nothing much but wait for the princess herself to come home. “I have a gift. I wasn’t doing nothing while the West rallied their people.”

Ares raises an eyebrow. “Oh, and what gift would you give?”

The icy wind whistles around us in the pits of this row of islands. “First, we’re going to eliminate the people of the Air Court and make this court the court of the gods.” I brush the pillar next to me with my fingers. Millions of the Air Court live here like ants, and I want these islands to be ours, our throne rooms. I’ve had to work with the West to make sure they were the perfect distraction for us, but this place was my goal.

Ares has a one-track mind, and at times it’s annoying. I don’t need him in order to rule this world, but ruling on my own is always boring. There are so few gods left in all the worlds, and maybe I can convince more to come here if I remake this world into a haven for the gods. They can be destructive, fuck, and do whatever they want here. No rules. No powerful mortals, dragons, wolves, or anyone to stop us. It will be like it was in the past. He is the god of war, and war is what I need to conquer this place once and for all.

Desperate love is always my favourite kind, the sweetest. I can taste it in the air around Ares now, floating all the way back to the princess who just lost her mate for good. “Where’s my staff? And what gift did you give me?”

“Careful, husband.” I place my hand on his chest. He almost steps back, and I dig my nails into his chest. Breaking him is going to be fun. A part of the air king is still there, and it’s annoying, but he’ll die soon enough. “The staff is in another world—lost. We’ll figure something else out. This world has annoyed me too much not to conquer it now.” I walk over and kick the stone cage sitting in the centre of the throne room by my magic-dazed guards. In it, a small girl is curled up, her eyes wide and scared as she cries.

He looks down at her. “Who is the girl?”

I smile like a Cheshire cat. “This is King Grayson’s little sister, a princess of the Earth Court and all ours. She was very easy to convince to come outside of her protected borders. Stupid really, but she was in love with a guard’s son, or at least she thought she was. He ditched her the moment my magic left, so I’m not sure how much love really went on.” She keeps crying, weeping for her brother to save her. How sweet. “She’s our protection. None of them will come here to save the air king when they learn we have this girl. If they do—she is dead.”
