O nce Auslin resolved things with Kalassandria, he felt much better about going out and exploring Mizujil with Kitsuki. The woods were filled with all kinds of exotic birds and creatures that Auslin marveled at as they walked through the forest. The sound of thundering waterfalls echoed from a distance.

"I used to spend almost all of my summers here when I was younger," Kitsuki said as they neared the waterfalls. "Kalassandria and I would often visit the waterfalls to play. I have many fond memories from those days."

"What about Kizoshi and Kisano?" Auslin asked. There was an extra bounce of excitement in his step.

"Kisano never left the castle. Kizoshi was usually in the Divine Realm. She rarely came to Mizujil, given her adversarial relationship with Kalassandria."

They entered a clearing with an enormous pool of bright blue water, which had six large waterfalls cascading into it. Auslin stared at the view with an awestruck appreciation for the beauty of the area.

Kitsuki embraced Auslin from behind, resting his chin on the top of his mate's head. "Is it not one of the most beautiful things you have ever seen before?"

"It's gorgeous." Auslin continued looking around with a sense of awe. "No wonder you loved coming here. It's magical."

After allowing Auslin a little more time to continue staring at the waterfalls, Kitsuki eventually took his mate's hand to lead them closer to the edge of the pool. He used his magic to strip them of their clothes. Kitsuki entered the water first, then held his hand out to Auslin.

The mage tentatively walked into the water. "Wow, I thought it would be cold, but it's so warm!" He waded deeper into the pool before they swam toward the middle. "Doesn't the noise hurt your sensitive hearing?"

"The sound of such beautiful nature is not unpleasant." Kitsuki trailed his fingers down Auslin's back as he pulled their bodies closer together. The comment made Auslin chuckle. "I know what you mean." He sighed happily as he looked around them. As had become his habit, his fingers toyed with Maseo's pendant. "It really is a perfect paradise. All our troubles feel so far away while we're here."

It was a welcome reprieve, especially when Kitsuki's instincts told him things were about to become worse before they got better. He hugged Auslin tighter, enjoying the closeness thrumming through their bond. It was a reminder that no matter what happened, Kitsuki would do anything to keep his mate safe, even if it meant declaring war on Nasume.
