21. Mateo
Chapter 21
Mateo
T his stupid fucking tracker doesn’t work to find a pinpoint? 300 feet range? How the fuck is that going to help when she’s in a god damn hotel?
Mateo was furious, raging, vibrating with unused energy.
I’m safe. I’ll call in the morning.
Yara’s text bounced around his mind for the hundredth time.
Emilio had gotten into her work computer earlier only to find the discretion date tonight wasn’t even on the schedule. The man she was on a date with, that she had disappeared with. Wasn’t. Even. Vetted.
They didn’t even know his name.
Mateo turned to Kazi. “You’re lucky she likes you.”
Mateo watched Kazi roll his shoulders back and side eye the front desk attendant.
The idiot attendant had been watching them warily ever since Mateo threatened their life.
The worker deserved it. How could they not remember his little bee? She was indistinguishable.
Much to Mateo’s chagrin, Kazi didn’t even appear worried. He had expressed that she most likely had wanted to ditch them, especially after Izzy’s distraction call. Mateo didn’t agree.
“She’s okay. She’ll call us in the morning. ”
Mateo turned on Kazi. “She is FUCKING some STRANGE MAN! She has a fucking stalker, pendejo !” he roared into Kazi’s face, wanting nothing more than to pulverize the man.
He wouldn’t. If only for Yara.
Yara had buried so deep into Mateo that he wasn’t quite sure when or how it happened.
But he knew one thing for certain, what had started with a mere curiosity had led to a full out obsession.
Kazi appeared to accept Mateo’s anger, offering a reassuring smile to the hotel employees. “Yes, I am upset too. But I also know better than to draw attention to myself.”
“Yeah, so little attention. She doesn’t even know you want her. Fucking idiot.” Mateo was pissed. He was throwing punches.
He needed another Liam. A distraction.
He hadn’t realized how useless the tracker would be.
Kazi hummed an obnoxious noise, grating further on Mateo’s nerves.
“Who owns the company?” Mateo spat out.
“What company?” Kazi replied, leaning against a white pillar in the hotel’s lobby.
Relaxing.
It took everything for Mateo not to swing at Kazi.
“The tracking device company. I want the CEO. His personal address. I’m calling Emilio back.” Mateo clenched his fists. He needed to relieve some of his… frustrations.
