Chapter 30

THIRTY

Lexi snores.

After how stressed she was about doing something embarrassing or something that could be a deal-breaker for me—which isn’t possible because I’m so far sunk for this woman it’s not even funny—I don’t have the heart to tell her.

I also don’t think it’s something she normally does, but the pregnancy has changed her body, just like Romel suggested it might. I love this woman, but the sounds that come out of her in the middle of the night are downright terrifying. The first time I heard it, I thought a lion had broken into my penthouse.

I watch her sleep for a little longer, loving how peaceful she looks when she’s asleep, especially in our bed in our house, then get up and head down to make her breakfast. She’s been on a waffle kick for the last couple of weeks, so I decide to make some batter. I’ve got music playing low in the background as I drink my coffee and make us waffles and bacon. I also whip up some egg whites for myself since I try to eat relatively clean, even in the offseason.

When the waffles are done, I turn around to put them on the plate on the counter only to find Lexi standing at the edge of the kitchen, her eyes wide as she looks around. I follow her gaze and wince a little at the mess I made.

I wasn’t kidding about the dishes, but I guess I haven’t cooked enough for her to realize I’m kind of a messy cook. I clean it up when I’m done, but the during often looks like something out of a disaster movie.

I look back at her. “I’m going to clean all this up. Promise.”

She stares at me for a second, her bottom lip trapped between her lips, and I start to panic that maybe this is a deal-breaker for her . But that panic doesn’t have much time to grow because she walks up to me, wraps her arms around my waist, and nuzzles against my chest. Her body starts to shake, and I almost think she’s crying which makes me feel like the biggest asshole in the world, until she makes the most unladylike snort and I realize she’s laughing.

She’s laughing at me.

She tilts her head up, her face flushed as she tries to compose herself, and I can’t help smiling down at her. God, I fucking love this woman, even when she’s laughing at my expense.

She shakes her head and looks back around the kitchen before smiling up at me. “You weren’t kidding.”

“No, I wasn’t.”

“Is it weird that this mess actually makes me feel better?”

My shoulders relax as I hold her closer to me. “Not at all. I already told you; you can’t do anything that will make me run away from you. I’m in this, Precious. All in.”

She pushes up to her tiptoes, bringing her lips to mine, and I get lost in the kiss until I smell something burning and realize the bacon is well past crispy.

She smacks my butt as she moves over to the cabinet to grab more plates, and we move around the kitchen together getting breakfast dished up. It’s the first time it really sinks in that this is my life—the woman of my dreams making breakfast with me and carrying our baby. It feels like a dream come true, and if it weren’t for the continued distance between me and my brother, my life would be downright perfect.
