Chapter Sixty-Three

Owen

E zra is actually hungry when we step back into the main room of the suite, so he calls the kitchen to order a couple of large pizzas, and I offer to go pick them up, to avoid having one of their staff staggering around our dark corridor.

Now that I know where the kitchen is, and it’s really not far, it doesn’t seem like a big deal to go pick stuff up, especially after Shadow and I raided the kitchen earlier since he had the idea to make a nice meal and invite Lana over.

Then, of course, we found out Pete had already overstepped the mark and claimed her.

That was not a surprise. There’s a reason I switched places with him last night.

He was getting impatient, and I didn’t want us to rush things to our own detriment.

As it turns out, Lana was beyond ready to meet her true mates.

She’s so fucking perfect.

Beautiful, smart and she fucking loves sex.

We couldn’t have picked out a better true mate ourselves.

I’m on a high as I skip down the stairs and cut through the reception area to get to the kitchen, humming the last song I heard on the radio before I parked the car outside Goldcrest.

The double doors that lead into the kitchen are closed, but not locked.

I step inside, and call out, “Hello? Chef Laroux?”

The place looks kind of empty, but maybe the chef’s taking five.

He did mention he smokes when I was in here earlier with Shadow.

A girl in black comes toward me, and I realize I recognize her from last night.

She brought dinner to Lana’s office.

“Hey,” I greet, trying to remember her name.

“Uh, hey,” she says. “The kitchen’s off limits to guests.”

“I know. I spoke to Chef Laroux earlier, and he said it would be okay for me to pick up our orders at night since the lights aren’t working on our landing.”

“Oh,” she says, nodding. “Well, then, let me see if the pizzas are ready.”

She starts back the way she came, pausing when something falls out of her apron.

“Oops,” she murmurs as she crouches and picks the paperback up.

It looks well worn, like she’s read it a million times.

Her face is red as she stuffs it back in her apron.

She pushes a door open and disappears via that shortcut to the part of the kitchen that contains the ovens. That seems to be designed to allow the servers to come and go quickly with orders. The laundry room is also back there, from what I learned earlier today, but it’s right at the end.

A few minutes of pacing around later and when I look back down that corridor, the girl is coming my way with two pizza boxes. It wasn’t a long wait, but I’m thankful that it’s over.

All I can think about is getting back to the suite.

“Here you go,” she says, handing them over.

“Great, thanks,” I respond as I take them out of her hands.

She opens one of the double doors for me.

“Have a great night!” She waves with her other hand as I step back out into the hallway.

“You too. Thanks!” I reply as I exit.

Finally, I can get back to Ezra’s suite. I don’t waste any time, taking long strides across the empty reception area to get back to that side of the building.

I don’t know when Lana might wake up, but I definitely don’t want to miss that moment.
