Chapter Thirty-Two
Pete
T he camera I installed by the window gives a decent view of Lana’s door, but I’m starting to wish I’d found a second spot for the other by the time Lana and Owen actually walk into the shot.
“They’re there!” Shadow exclaims, lifting his head from Ezra’s shoulder and moving forward in his seat as if he’s trying to get closer to the screen.
I watch as Owen moves. It’s hard to tell what’s going on, but when light spills across the screen we know the door has been opened. I catch a glimpse of Lana disappearing into the room before Owen does the same and the screen goes dark again.
“Well, that was a little anti-climactic,” Shadow murmurs. “Maybe we should have gotten a second camera installed in Lana’s room.”
“We know they got into the room safely,” Ezra tells him. “That’s all that matters.”
I grunt in response to that, still sore that Owen switched places with me.
I respect his choices, but I don’t always like them.
I’m probably being an asshole.
Right now, I feel justifiably pissed off.
Ezra puts a hand on my shoulder. “You need to get some sleep.”
“That’s not happening,” I tell him, leaning back in my seat and watching the screen.
“You know you’ll have to take over from Owen in the morning,” Shadow starts. “He won’t let you if he can tell you didn’t sleep.”
Fuck. He’s right, and you know it.
“If that creep Melvin …”
“If he shows up, we’ll wake you,” Shadow promises.
I look at Ezra, and he sighs. “We’ll stay up so you can sleep. Don’t worry, I’ll keep watch.”
“And I’ll keep us sustained with snacks,” Shadow adds.
“I only need a few hours,” I tell them, as I get to my feet.
“Then we’ll wake you at one,” Ezra says.
He’s not going to get distracted like Shadow will, but I’m still asking a lot of someone who’s had a long day already.
“Are you sure? Because I can …”
“You can go to bed,” Shadow cuts in, getting up and taking me by the hand. “And you can rest so you’re able to look after Lana tomorrow. Otherwise, we’ll be waiting forever for Owen and Ezra to get a chance to talk and none of us wants that.”
I can’t argue about that.
The longer we have to wait to tell Lana she’s meant for us, the harder it’ll get to be around her.
She already knows I’m attracted, and I know those feelings are reciprocal.
The temptation to do something about it is strong.
“You’ll speak to Owen tomorrow?” I ask Ezra, needing the confirmation.
“I would have spoken to him tonight, but obviously that’s not possible.”
“It’s probably just as well,” Shadow adds. “You know how moody he gets when he has to do something he doesn’t really want to do.”
“We all know how that goes,” Ezra murmurs.
“He’d better not upset Lana.”
I’m irritated by the thought of that. It makes me want to storm across to her room and bang on the door, but that would just piss Owen off some more, and I doubt it would result in getting to spend the night over there instead of over here.
Shadow tugs on my hand. “Come on, I’ll help you relax so you can actually get some sleep.”
I take in a slow breath, exhaling before I nod and let my Omega lead me into the bedroom.
At least if I sleep it won’t feel like a million hours have passed before I get to see Lana again.
