Chapter 6 - TJ

"Follow me," Taylor's voice gravels out as she starts to saunter towards the dancefloor.

Every fiber of my being is screaming in satisfaction at winning this battle. I will finally get my hands on this beauty.

Taylor's body moves like she was born to dance, her hips shaking from side to side with each step. My mouth goes dry as I stand on the edge of the dance area. There is just something about those hips that puts me in a trance. It is as if I am just an onlooker, watching the show of the century.

"Are you coming?" Taylor asks from over her shoulder, breaking me from the spell.

"Yeah, of course, wouldn't miss this for the world."

Walking with a skip in my step, I approach Taylor, who is still shaking her hips like a pro. I sidle up behind her, placing my hands on those delectable hips.

She freezes for a moment, so I leave space between us, but we still dance.

The music seems quieter next to her and I can feel my skin buzzing where it connects with her body. There is just something about this moment that feels endless.

Taylor sways her hips, and my eyes are glued to her ass as we move together as one.

Get closer, my dragon pleads.

There is nothing I want more than to connect my crotch with her ass and feel her dancing on me, but I don't want this moment to end by me going too far.

"This is nice," I whisper into her ear.

I can see the hairs on her neck standing up at my words, and my heart aches to attach my mouth to her neck.

"For you, it is."

She is quite the sass master, and my dragon and I love it.

I never thought I'd want a sassy woman, but here I am being drawn to one.

"Don't tell me you aren't enjoying this."

"Enjoying what? Being crowded by a fiend?"

A laugh bursts from my throat and I turn her around in my arms.

Taylor stumbles, but I hold on tight, catching her. "I've got you."

"Why did you do that?"

"Catch you? Because I didn't want to see your pretty self on the ground," I explain with a shrug.

"No, turn me around. I don't want to look at you while we dance."

Taylor glares into my eyes and I chuckle. Her nose scrunches up at my laughter, and it might just be the cutest thing I have ever seen.

Seeing her up close, I notice her big green eyes are lined in black and that she has a small speck of mascara on her cheek.

I reach up and wipe the speck away, but Taylor catches my wrist in her hand.

"What are you playing at?"

Taylor's words distract me from her soft skin.

"Nothing."

We stare into each other's eyes, Taylor holding my arm and my heart beating faster.

There is just something about this woman that is driving me and my dragon wild.

Kiss her, my dragon begs me.

There is nothing I want more in this moment than to collide our mouths together, but Taylor interrupts my thoughts.

"Obviously, you are lying, and this dance is over."

Taylor drops my arm and turns around.

Stop her , my dragon grumbles. She might just be the one.

"Wait," I call out, this time grabbing her arm. "I'm not playing at anything or lying. I just want to dance with you."

I mean every word.

I can feel eyes on me and know that everyone is watching our interaction.

Taylor must feel them, too, as she turns back to me.

"Fine, but don't touch me."

"That I can do."

Taylor moves side to side, but with less enthusiasm than before. It's like she is a robot mimicking her earlier motions.

Usually, I don't care much about how a woman dances, as they are usually enthralled by me, but seeing Taylor not into this hurts my heart.

What have I done to make Taylor hate me so much?

Instead of dancing in silence, I attempt another conversation.

"How is your time in New York going?"

"I've had better times…"

Clearly, she isn't up to it.

She bothers me in a way I cannot understand.

I am not sure why, but she does.

I want to get under her skin and find out what she is thinking.

The song changes to a slower beat and I can sense Taylor getting ready to flee.

To stop her, I open my big mouth and ask, "Isn't this case in bad taste? You know me and clearly hate me. Why would you take it?"

The moment I finish speaking, Taylor's frown deepens.

I'm not sure what is going through her mind, but I know it can't be good.

"I am a professional and I can separate cases from my personal life."

"Clearly, you can't. You are literally dancing with the enemy right now," I point out before I can bite my tongue.

Taylor turns on her heel and walks towards the exit of the Sitting Duck.

As I watch her leave, my eyes are glued to her ass.

Don't let her get away. We need her , my dragon insists.

I don't want to admit it, but he's right.

There is something about Taylor that just feels right to me. Which makes no sense.

We argue and don't get along, but there is something about our arguments that excites me.

Maybe I won't mind if she is the one. After all, she would keep me on my toes.

I am reminded of my dream and freeze. If I chase after her, there will be no stopping my heart from wanting her. But if I stay back and let her leave, I probably won't see her again until the trial. Both routes hold appeal and disadvantages. My heart aches at the thought of not seeing her for weeks, but my brain tells me it might just be for the best.

Taylor clearly wants nothing to do with me, but I want something to do with her.

It may not be love, but it is sure something.
