CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
"Grandma, how many? How many babies is my wife having?" he asked at breakfast. Gabi laughed, shaking her head.
"Brixton, I only was able to do the urine test. I don't have access to anything else here. We'll know more when we get home. Just know that she's healthy, the exam was healthy, and you're going to be a daddy." He grinned at her, kissing her cheek.
"I'm gonna be a daddy," he smiled. When the others arrived for breakfast, Heath and Timothy were thrilled to see them all looking so well. They congratulated Brix and Daphne once again.
"I think we need to send the girls home," said Sebastian. Em looked at him, frowning. "Babe, you said it yourself. You need to get back to the bureau and handle some things. There's nothing else for you guys to do here. We just have to track down Deirdre."
"He's right," said Magnolia. "I'm ready to get home and plan my wedding. I'll need your help."
"Nice try," smirked Ellie. "You don't need our help. You're just ready for your own bed. I get it. Me too. For once, I won't argue."
"Seriously?" grinned Leif.
"Ha ha, funny man," she said, nudging her husband. "No. I won't argue. This time." She kissed her husband and waved for the others to go upstairs and pack.
"The bird will be here in an hour. They're cleared to park on the green in the back," said Zulu. "Gabi, I know you will, babe, but please be careful. Just worry about taking care of everyone on the way home."
"You're not fooling anyone, my big chocolate sex on a stick."
"Ew."
"Gross."
"Make me gag."
"Children, don't be jealous," smiled Gabi. "I know you're just trying to get us back to Belle Fleur and to safety. Don't worry. We'll be fine. You just catch that crazy bitch before she does something really stupid like hurt my great-grandchild."
"Great-grandchild," whispered Zulu. "Fuck. We're going to be great-grandparents."
"You're just now realizing that," smiled Tiger. His father shoved his shoulder, and he grinned at him.
"I love you, babe," said Gabi, kissing her husband. "Come home soon."
"Man, that's what I want my marriage to look like when I'm a grandparent," smiled Walker.
"Don't worry. It will," smiled Major. "Your parents won't accept anything less, and neither will we. We expect a lot of our wives, and they don't complain half as much as we do. They're fucking brave, ferocious, fearless, and beautiful. Whatever magic we have at Belle Fleur, I hope it lasts forever."
"Amen, brother," smiled Sebastian.
"Alright, we need access to security cameras, traffic cams, all of it," said Brix. "We have to find Deirdre before she does something truly awful. She has no family here. No friends that will support her, so she's on her own. Where would she go?"
"Someplace where she can hide," said Tiger.
"She's an older, aristocratic black woman seen by almost everyone all over the world at this point. Her face is plastered all over the news, and she is going to be easy to spot," said Zulu.
"If she's somewhere that's easy where there are plenty of people to be seen and spotted," said Brix. They all turned to him, waiting for an explanation. "North. The northern areas of Great Britain are pretty sparse. Border counties in England, bordering Scotland, Scotland itself. Hell, William Wallace made sport of hiding in all the places in Northern Scotland."
"It's a bit more populated since William's day," smirked Forrest. "But. I know what you mean. There are still a ton of small villages."
"She wouldn't hide in a small village," said Major. "They would know she was a stranger. She's more likely to hide in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, or Aberdeen. They're busy, crowded, diverse, and no one looks twice at a stranger or tourist. She could easily move across the border and try to catch a fishing boat or oil rig support to Sweden, Norway, hell, just about anywhere."
"Alright," said Brix. "Let's get the home team to start checking those cameras."
"The home team is here," smiled AJ and Hiro. "We thought you could use our help, so we hitched a ride with Autumn and a new pilot, Clark."
"Clark? Like Clark Kent?" smirked Alistair.
"No," said the sweet, throaty, sexy voice. "Like Clark Allison Grimes."
Alistair stared at the woman, his throat suddenly dry. His heart was beating so fast he was certain that everyone could hear it and see it. He just stared at the woman. She had long blonde hair, straight and cut bluntly at her waist. She gripped an elastic at her wrist and twisted it around her hair, forming a perfect ponytail. It only served for him to see the green of her eyes.
"Oh, shit," he whispered. His friends all stared at him, smirking at their friend's reaction. "Sorry. I didn't mean to offend you."
"You didn't," she smiled. "I've been called Clark Kent before. Just Clark is fine. And you are?" She held out her long, slender hand, and he took note of the pretty light blue nail polish.
"Alistair. Alistair Thomas Fitch."
"Ah, you're one of the them," she smiled.
"Them?"
"Part of the originals. You're related to Ms. Ruby, right?" she grinned. He started to say something, but she just waved him off, laughing. "I'm joking, Alistair. Your parents, Patrick and Carsen, were some of the first people to welcome me to the team this week. Savannah, she's been amazing teaching me about all the incredible capabilities of the birds."
"Right," he nodded, still taken aback by the beautiful woman. "Well, welcome to the team. I'm sure you'll be a great asset to all of us."
"I'll do my best," she said, flashing her big smile. "We'll take everyone home and then be ready to come back and pick all of you up as well. It was nice meeting you, Alistair. I'll see you around."
He couldn't help himself. His eyes followed her perfectly round ass as it swayed side to side when she walked away. Her narrow waist was nipped at the sides by the expertly fitted jeans and the sexy as shit tank top forming over her full breasts.
Suddenly, someone slapped the back of his head.
"Hey! What was that for?" he frowned, looking at Zulu.
"Don't fuck up the new girl," he said. "We need her skills, and she's young and stupid enough to fall for your charm. Do not screw with her."
"I wasn't going to screw with her," he said, frowning. "I just think she's fucking hot as shit." Brix just laughed, shaking his head.
"Come on, let's load up the girls."
"What? She is. She's fucking hot as shit."
