After I made Taylor come again for the third time, I pulled out of her so we could catch our breath, and I immediately regretted it. There was no better feeling in the world than being deep inside my mate.

“Should we join the others for dinner?” she asked as she cleaned her thighs of my spend, and put on a fresh sweater.

“We do not have time increments like you do. Is your minute very short?”

“Yes, it’s only sixty seconds, which is the smallest increment of time we have.”

“Why don’t you count your sixty seconds while I finish what I was doing down here?”

“Yep,” she beamed up at me. “I’ve always liked it. It means a lot to me, which is why it didn’t feel right wearing it when we weren’t truly mated, but I’m happy to wear it now.”

She put her hand over mine and asked, “Why the sun and the moon?”

“Because even before we luminesced, you were a bright light shining into my soul. The world could fall into darkness, but as long as I had you, my life would be full of light.”

“Oh Brexl, that’s beautiful.” Taylor hugged me and buried her face in my chest. I embraced her in return and ached to pick her up and carry her over my shoulder back to our furs, but I didn’t want her to miss this special dinner.

We walked outside hand-in-hand, to find one table had been left open for us.

As we walked, Taylor kept looking down like she was embarrassed, and I didn’t know why.

“Is the ground interesting tonight?” I asked, hoping to bring a smile to her face.

It worked. She pulled me down and whispered in my ear, “We aren’t fooling anyone.”

“I don’t understand. We aren’t pretending anymore.”

“No, not that. I mean, we were the last ones out of our cave, we look flushed, and probably smell like sex. Everyone knows what we were just doing.”

“Is this a problem?” I asked as we sat down. I certainly didn’t have an issue with the dekes knowing I’d just finished claiming my mate.

“It’s embarrassing. Well, at least it is for a human.”

“Do you regret what we did?”

“Well, no.” Taylor’s cheeks turned a soft pink.

“Will you be mad if I keep you in the furs again until the very last second?”

“No,” her cheeks turned red, and she bit her lip as if she were remembering our very recent activities.

“Then I suggest you get very comfortable with feeling embarrassed,” I smirked down at my mate, loving the effect my words had on her.

“Brexl!” she playfully slapped my shoulder.

“Good evening,” Drovo greeted us as he and Kayla stopped by our table.

“Orsu said we could eat now. You wanna walk up with me?” Kayla invited Taylor to join her on a walk to the buffet table.

“I’ll chat with Brexl so you two can chat on your own.” Drovo gave his mate a knowing smile, as if this was part of some plan of theirs.

Once we were alone, he started in with his questions. “So, how’s mated life?”

I gave him an assessing look before I answered. “It is going well.”

“Is it different from...before?”

Drovo was being strangely cryptic, and I had no desire to try to interpret his questions.

“What are you getting at, Drovo? Speak plainly.”

He sighed and continued. “Is this real? Are you really mated or are you still pretending? Kayla thinks you might be, and I told her I’d ask.”

I looked over at my mate, who looked radiant in the moonlight as she talked and laughed with Kayla. Her fingers traced the sun and moon pendants on her necklace and it warmed my heart all over again to see her wearing them.

“Our mating is very real. We had been pretending, but not anymore. I am hers and she is mine.”

“That’s great!” Drovo clapped me on the shoulder. “I’m happy for you.”

“Are you happily mated?” I hadn’t spoken to Drovo much since the morning I informed him Taylor had been kidnapped.

“Yes, very happy.” Drovo’s expression turned dream-like as he stared at his mate who was now approaching our table.

“Ah, look, our mates have returned,” Drovo said, as he greeted Kayla with a kiss.

“We’ll see you two tomorrow,” Kayla waved as they walked to their table.

“Shall we eat?” Taylor asked as she sat down. “I’m starving.”

“Me too,” I replied, but I wasn’t looking at my food. Taylor caught my meaning and blushed all over again.
