Chapter 8

THANE

The enforcer outside my brother’s new penthouse opens the door. He’s smart enough to not cause me any grief. I’m guessing the incident at the estate the prior week has gotten around. The heavy door closes as I look around, taking a step inside. Their penthouse looks so much different from the one he had before the cartel attack. It was cold with stark colors and metal objects. This penthouse is warm and soft. It has a more classic look than my father’s estate and it tugs at my heart. What can I do to make my penthouse more suited for me and Red?

Footsteps pad down the hallway. Cynric knows I’m coming. Did he tell Isabella? I guess, I’ll see. I step farther into the foyer as Isabella approaches with her mouth wide open. “What the fuck?”

I smile, approaching with my hands up. “I come in peace.”

She runs her hand across her belly. “Why are you here? Does my husband know?”

“Of course he knows. Does anything happen in your home without his permission?”

Isabella smirks. “More than you could imagine, but that’s beside the point.” She stands akimbo. “Why are you here?”

I move closer and tip my head. “I’m sorry for being an asshole. I apologize for doubting you and making your work harder when you were saving my brother. Please forgive me.”

Her brow lifts. “You hurt my feelings. I didn’t expect you to be so awful to me. Your mother would have been ashamed of you.”

“Yeah. I know. I’ve had a more difficult time since coming back from spending time with the cartel. It’s not an excuse, just an explanation. It won’t happen again. You are my future Pakhan’s wife and my sister. You have my loyalty and my protection, as well as all of your children. I apologize.”

Isabella’s face softens. “Thank you. I just want us to be a family.”

I pull her into my arms and kiss the top of her head. “We are family. I want you to believe me and trust me. I won’t hurt you again.”

The door behind us opens, and my brother’s voice growls. “Let go of my woman.”

I turn and smirk. “Cool your jets, Beast.” I lower my head to hers. “I’m always here if you need me.” Releasing her, I walk toward my grumpy brother as we head back to his study.

“Do you think she’ll just forgive you?” The annoyed look on his face reminds me he hasn’t.

I put my hand on his shoulder. “Yes. I do. Your wife’s a good soul. It’ll take a little while, but we’ll get back to where we were before I left for Central America.” I take a breath and blow it out. “I apologize for mishandling Isabella and your injury.”

His brow lifts. “I admit I was surprised with your reaction.” He tips his head. “I think Papa is more pissed than me or Isabella.”

I nod. “Yep.”

Cynric shifts the conversation with a nod. “Did you talk to Roric about the woman?”

“Yeah. He’s looking for her now.”

“Did he take anyone with him?”

I shake my head. “No. You know Roric. He’ll do it all himself.”

Cynric shifts and moves around me. “Keep me updated on the Aguilars.”

“Yeah. I will.” I exit the penthouse and hustle to my SUV. Red should be done at the hospital. I think we’ll go out for a nice dinner.
