Chapter 14
Luna
"She'll be here later." Aurora grins, sliding her phone into her pocket. "She's apparently weaseled her way into three of the brothers' beds already."
I throw my head back in laughter. "Of course she has. I wonder what the hang up is for number four?"
"She says Rune is a stuck up prick that looks at her like a piece of garbage he stepped on." She replies, wiping tears from her eyes. "Leave it to her to lock down the scariest men on the planet."
"They're not all scary." I snort, still not able to contain my amusement. "Rune was very nice to me. Alaric and Silas didn't seem all that bad, either. It's really just Karrion you have to tiptoe around." The thought of him makes me shudder. "Rune said just to avoid him, if at all possible. Best not to end up on his radar."
"Well," she starts, "I don't really have plans to meet any of them, so it shouldn't be a problem."
"Food is done." Gordon calls from the entryway of the living room.
"Thank you, Gordon." Aurora smiles at him as we walk past him to the kitchen.
When I first see the table, my mouth falls wide open. He cooked enough food for at least three armies. There's a little bit of everything; salad, hoagies (It's not a hero, or a sub, or any of the other shit people call it. It's a fucking HOAGIE), lasagna, garlic bread, chicken cutlets, dirty rice, steamed veggies and a mouth watering variety of fruits.
We each grab a plate, filling them with whatever we want before sitting at the island. "Isn't anyone else eating?" I ask, already gathering my first bite. I'm going straight for the rice.
"No. We'll eat when you finish." Gordon says, placing a dirty pan in the sink.
"Oh, don't be silly." Aurora stands from her seat to yell out into the house. "Get your asses in here and eat while it's warm!" She yells and I immediately hear multiple sets of footsteps. Aurora waits to hand each of them a plate as they enter, smiling at them all. When Gordon doesn't move, she arches a brow at him, holding a plate out in front of her. He nods as he takes it and starts piling food onto it. "I can't make any more chairs magically appear, but eat wherever you'd like." She announces before sitting back down.
"Ya know, Gordo, you talk too damn much, but you cook the best food I've ever tasted." I jab, hoping he has a sense of humor.
"Thanks." He murmurs and nods at me.
"See what I mean?" I chuckle, "It's hard to get a word in edgewise."
One of the guys' phone pings and he hurries to grab it, swallowing nervously. "So sorry about that."
"It's a phone," I laugh, "No need to apologize."
He taps a few buttons on the screen before putting it back in his pocket and finishing up his food. Our head of security, Rodger, comes in just as everyone is putting their plates in the sink. At least half of them offer to do the dishes, but Gordon shoo's them all away. "You all need to get outside and get back to work."
"Tell anyone outside to come eat." Aurora tells one of the guards as he passes by. "You too, Rodger. Eat something."
He sighs, grabbing a plate from the counter.
"I need to give you guys a heads up." I look at Rodger, then Gordy, smiling my best ‘forgive me in advance' smile. "Nyx is going to be here later."
"Jesus fucking Christ" comes from the doorway, and I don't even have to look to know that's it's Greg. "I'm taking my food to go, in that case."
"Awe, Greggy poo doesn't like tiny little Nyx?" I tease him, knowing damn well he isn't going anywhere. Nobody really knows why Nyx likes attacking Greg so much, but the poor guy gets fucked up every time she comes here.
"Tiny little Nyx." He snorts, "There's a lot of anger packed into that tiny little body."
"You're not wrong there." I laugh, turning the water on to start the dishes. Gordon tries to stop me, but I glare at him. There's no real heat behind it, but he raises his hands in surrender, backing away like I might stab him. "It's a couple plates, Gordo, I got it."
"Yes ma'am." He nods, smiling for the first time, revealing the cutest little dimple on his left cheek.
After I finish the dishes, my plan is to sneak upstairs and find out where Aurora snuck off too. When I get to the top of the steps, a loud thud catches my attention. Slowly creeping toward the end of the hall, I jump when my bedroom door swings open and Aurora is standing there in lingerie. "Jesus Christmas, Peach! You scared the fuck out of me."
"Probably about as much as you scared me." She steps into the hallway, looking around. "Did you drop something?"
"Nope." Shaking my head, we both continue down the hall. "I'm not sure what that was."
When we reach the end of the hallway, I realize the sound is coming from the spare bedroom. It's not as loud as the first time, but this is definitely where it's coming from. When I pull the door open, my mouth goes dry instantly as my eyes land on the two security guards tied up.
Sam is passed out, but Ben is trying to work his hands free from the ziptie. Rory rushes into the room, opening the top drawer of the dresser where a knife is stashed. She makes quick work of cutting both men free before trying to wake Sam up. As soon as Ben makes it to his feet, he starts barking orders. "You two need to get to the basement and lock yourselves in."
"What's going on?" I ask, grabbing a shirt from the floor so Rory isn't roaming the house in bright red lingerie. "Who did this?"
"I'm not sure who it was, I was hit from behind." He quietly responds as he starts ushering us toward the door. "Get to the basement and lock it, now!" He demands, "There's only a few of us that know the codes to get down there. Stay put until one of us comes for you."
We almost make it to the basement door when one of the new guards walks around the corner, eyes widening at the sight of Ben. Before I can even register what's happening, the new guy pulls a gun and fires. Ben shoves us closer to the door as he hits the ground. We don't waste any time flinging the door open and slamming it shut as soon as we're through.
This door has five custom locks that slide into place at the push of a button. In order to unlock it, you have to put in five different codes, in a specific order. If you enter a number wrong, it's automatically locked down for an hour, unless it's unlocked from the inside.
"I'm not staying in this fucking basement." I complain, making my way down the stairs. "We're going back out there to help them."
"I'm with you." Rory rubs my arm, then puts in the combination to open the gun vault. The door pops open and we're greeted with a huge variety of weapons. Most of them we don't know how to use, or even know the names of, so we stick to the pistols that we know how to operate. They're simple; flick the safety off, pull the thingy back, point and shoot. Fine, after this shit is over, we'll take a gun safety class or something.
We each grab two pistols, holding onto one and sliding the other in the back of our pants.
"Thank god I didn't put the thong on." She mumbles, quietly making her way up the stairs. I follow close behind her, trying not to make any noise.
As we reach the top of the stairs, the hair on the back of my neck stands up. "I'm pretty sure there's someone on the other side of that door."
My suspicion is quickly confirmed when someone knocks on the door. "It's me. We have to go!" Nyx shouts.
I push the button to unlock the door and wait for it to finish. Rory pulls the door open just in time to see a guy sneaking up behind Nyx. I open my mouth to warn her, but someone else comes into view, knocking him down before shooting him between the eyes.
Nyx turns around, smiling at her savior. "Hey, maybe you're not a worthless sack of shit after all, Greggy boy." She pulls him in, smashing her lips against his. The kiss is fast, maybe two seconds tops, but when she pulls away from him, the attitude is right back. "Now, quit standing around before I change my mind again."
She gestures for us to follow behind her quietly. "Silas should be here in a few minutes." She informs us as we exit the house. We're not more than a few feet out the door when a loud voice thunders behind us.
"STOP!" He shouts as we hear the distinct sound of a gun cocking. "One more step and I start shooting. Boss prefers us to bring you in alive, but the main part is bringing you in, whatever means necessary."
The three of us turn to look at him, and I don't miss the tears welling in Aurora's eyes as she raises her arms in surrender. Raising my arms as well, I glare at the man who is now stalking toward us wearing a sinister smirk.
"Wipe that smile off your face before I take care of it for you." Of course Nyx has something smart to say right now.
"You've got some balls, bitch." He presses the barrel of his gun into her forehead and the little psychopath fucking smiles at him.
"You want to see my balls, big guy?" She pops the button of her jeans open and starts sliding them down her hips, not moving her head at all. Before she can get them down past her ass, she makes her move.
In one beautiful motion, she pulls the switchblade from her back pocket, flipping it open and slamming it up into his chin. His arm drops to the side and his mouth falls open, revealing the blade stuck up through his tongue. "Fucking pussy." She spits, pulling the knife out and kicking him backwards. "Never bring a gun to a knife fight, bitch!" Pulling her pants back up, she shrugs at us. "Typical man. Only one head works at a time."
