Chapter 28
"Would you calm the fuck down?" Ash barks at me as I shove my gear in my bag.
"I have to get out of here." I slam the locker shut, throwing my bag over my shoulder, bypassing Ash on my way out.
"Wait. Damn it!" he snaps. "Donnie!"
"What!?" I yell back. "What the fuck do you want, Ash?"
I was going fucking crazy not being able to talk or see Shorty. I was losing my goddam mind.
"I want you to calm down before you storm over to her house and make things worse for both of you."
"Worse?" I let out a sarcastic laugh and shake my head. "How can it get any worse? She won't talk to me. She won't see me. She doesn't want anything to do with me."
"It's not forever, D." His tone is softer now.
I drag my hands over my face. "I don't know, Ash. You didn't see her expression when she didn't want to talk to me that night.
It's like she was really done with me when we didn't even start. With everything going on, I want to be there for her. Remind her that she needs me too."
"I know."
"Great. Now that we cleared that up, and you wasted my time, I'm on my way to see my girl."
When we walk through the school doors, my phone vibrates in my pant pocket. I pull out my phone and groan when I see Seb's name on the screen.
"Yeah," I answer.
"Yo. Is Shorty with you?"
"No, I was on my way to see her now. Why? What's going on?"
"Fuck," he mutters. I hear him talking to someone else, but it comes out muffled like he's holding his hand over the receiver.
"Seb! What the hell is going on?" I bark loud enough that Ash flinches.
"Something's happened," he whispers brokenly.
I stop walking. "Wha-what do you mean something's happened?" A searing pain runs through my heart.
"She's been taken."
