Sadie
"I've missed you."
"Time to go home, baby."
The last menacing words whispered into my ear send a thread of chills through me before darkness takes over my body and mind.
Come on, Sadie, think! What was the last thing you remember?
I remember kissing Doni on the lips, walking toward the bathroom when I felt my phone vibrating, but I didn't get a chance to answer it because suddenly I was pulled away, feeling a pinch against my neck.
You gotta be kidding me. I was kidnapped.
Come on, wake up, wake up, wake up!
I adjust my eyes to the surroundings without alerting my captor or captors. My head is propped against a cold window as it slightly bounces after a sharp jolt hits me. The rough and bumpy feeling underneath tells me I'm in a moving car. Without moving my head, I blink a few times, noticing the highway lighting provides an illumination as the snow descends from the night sky.
God. Why is my body so stiff? Feels like my head is going to snap off.
"Good. You're awake," my captor says.
I adjust my body to an upright position, gasping from the pain in my neck.
What the hell did he inject me with?
"It's Ketamine. Try and relax. We're almost there."
Christian.
"Ho-how?" I lick my dry lips, trying not to freak out.
I'm hallucinating. Yep, that's it. I've gone crazy.
"How I'm a free man?" He cocks his head toward me, curling his lips with icy contempt.
I nod, the urge to throw up the fear climbing out of my throat.
"Doesn't fucking matter. I almost lost my shit when Frankie told me he saw you at Seb's with him—the fucking Du Pont assholes," he grits through his teeth.
How does he know them?
"Did you really think you could get away from me so easily? Did you forget who you belong to?" His sinister laugh makes the blood in my veins freeze. I can't jump out of the car before he kills me. I'm dead either way.
"I own your pretty ass. Remember that the next time you decide to fuck me over. When I saw how fucker touching what was mine…he's lucky I didn't slit his throat." His voice is thick with insinuation and full of venom.
"Did he fuck you?" He grips the steering wheel until his knuckles turn white. "Did you let him stick his dick in what's mine?"
When I don't respond, he slams the steering wheel, repeatedly roaring "fuck," and I jolt against the door.
"Did you fuck him?" He roars.
"No." I choke out.
SMACK!
"Don't you fucking lie to me."
Tears stream down my cheeks as I rub the sting from his slap. My face is on fire. I can't take any more beatings. I'd rather be dead than have to live another day through the pain he will inflict.
"You see what you do to me?" His tone changes to a calmer tone.
"Come here." He tries to pull me closer to him, but I recoil from his touch.
"I said come here!" He yanks me hard while my seatbelt is on, making me wince in pain from his grasp.
"I missed you so much, baby." He places a kiss on my forehead. and wraps his arms around my shoulders. "I'm going to make you so happy."
Fucking lunatic.
God. I hope he doesn't hurt Doni or the others. I will never forgive myself or be able to continue to live if anything were to happen to them.
I need to get back to him. There's only one thing to do to save him. To keep him safe. Even if I don't survive this, my soul will finally be at peace and my baby girl will be safe.
Forgive me.
The roads are slick and wet from the snow. Without giving it, another thought, using all the strength I have left, I reach for the steering wheel, jerking it in the other direction toward the concrete barrier wall at high speed. Tires squeal from the other cars as they honk, trying to avoid the impact.
Christian's horrific screams silence once the car slams against the wall. Holding my hands against the roof of the car, my body jolts around like a rag doll as my head smashes against the dash. The force causes the car to flip, landing upside down. The kinetic energy from the airbag deploying explodes in my face.
Keeping my eyes closed, waiting for the worst to happen, the glass shatters around me, pushing into my skin and I cry out in pain. I'm so disoriented with the ringing in my ears and the pain scorching throughout my body. The car stops moving while I hang upside down, still strapped into the seat.
"You stupid bitch!" Christian bellows in pain. "Are you trying to fucking kill us?" I hear him struggling to break free from his restraints. He grunts in frustration and kicks the busted windshield. He climbs out of the car and smashes my side of the window, not caring that the glass slices my face. The taste of copper travels down the edge of my mouth. I'm bleeding but I don't know where it's coming from. He reaches over and starts to cut off my seatbelt.
"When I set you free, use your hands to break your fall." He sounds worried and sincere. It's as if a flip switched, turning him back to young boy I once loved.
I don't reply. The pain is unbearable as I go in and out of consciousness.
"Stay with me, Sade. Damnit! Stay with me."
The sirens are in the distance but the pounding in my head is too close. My vision blurs, and nausea fills my stomach. Not sure if the tears are causing the blurriness, the blood dripping down my face, or the fact that it feels like I'm going to black out any minute.
"Fuck!" Christian grabs my chin harshly. "This isn't over. I'll be back for you, baby." One blink and he's gone.
I groan, the pain passing through me again. Little white spots float in front of my eyes when I hear voices shouting around me.
"We got a live one!"
"Her pulse is weak but she's breathing."
"We need the jaw of life to pull her out!"
"Hey, sweetie. It's ok, we're going to get you out. Just stay still, ok?" A gentle female's voice reaches my ears as she places a brace over my neck.
Suddenly, my eyes shut as the blackness pulls me under.
