Prologue

The sound of bottles crashing to the ground jerks me awake. My eyes slowly peel open, and the lights flickering above me barely manage to keep themselves alive.

A splintering pain explodes inside my head. I was torturing myself every time I moved, so I keep my movements small. My mouth feels like it is stuffed with cotton, and my lips are chapped. I don't think there's any saliva to soak them up.

What the fuck happened, and where the hell am I?

The ground is cold as fuck, and I can't feel my ass because it's so numb. I groan and try to roll myself into a sitting position, but the feeling of my body being feels like it's pinned down by a pile of bricks makes and it's impossible to move.

Two long blasts from a train pierced through the air and interrupted my thoughts.

Fucking fuck!

Why can't I move?

Where the hell am I?

I last remember hearing Sade's voice, but I can't remember what she was trying to tell me.

Footsteps echo throughout the space I'm in. I must be in a warehouse based on how the sounds bounce off the walls. I could make out at least two voices, but there are more than two people. The last set of steps is softer, like floating on air.

The sound of keys dangling a few feet away means I'm locked in a cage or cell. Oh, shit. Am I locked up?

Once the keys unlocked the doors, I felt feel a breeze on my face.

"Well, look who's up?" Asshole one spits out and kicks at my feet.

This mother—

"You're still breathing because of her. But don't think I won't hesitate to rip your spine out if I find no use for you." There's a threat of warning in Asshole number two's voice.

Her who?

There's movement around me and silent whispers. When I force my eyes open, the lights above me go out. The only light now illuminating the space comes from the door that leads into the room.

"You got five minutes, sis." Both assholes lock the cage I'm trapped in and walk out the door, closing it behind them before I can get a good look at them.

I thought I was alone until a soft melodic voice sang sings in the air.

"Jo?"

What the…it can't be.

This must be one of my episodes. Otherwise, I'm having a nightmare, or death awaits me on the other side of that door. But when the voice appeared in my vision, I felt a warm flutter in my chest. Then suddenly, in the silence of her absence, memories whispered and echoed in my mind, each a painful reminder of what I lost, and that they return to my chest.

I couldn't keep my eyes from drifting close and was sucked back into a pitch-black hole.
