Chapter 23
Epilogue
"So you're telling me they are some kind of krynassis hybrid?" Prince Isan demanded, looking around the lab.
Given that the fortress on the southern continent was mostly destroyed and massively compromised, command on Parac'Norr had been moved to the northern garrison. That meant Raalt, Isan, Banic and Kraath, the garrison commander, were currently all crammed into one tiny lab. The air was so thick with testosterone you could practically cut it with a knife.
"If these DNA samples you've given me are accurate, then yes," Beth looked up.
She was analyzing samples on her screen, and the body of the horde leader was laid on the dissection table in front of her. Laid being a relative term. They'd managed to recover most of him after what Banic had done to him and had arranged the pieces more or less in the right order.
"The krynassis DNA is definitely there, but there's something else. And it's not legion DNA," she said, using the name of the Rage creatures that were entwined in the DNA of all the ferals. "It's something else."
"They're Tanel," Kraath said from where he was leaning against the opposite wall, his arms folded over his chest. Sy looked at him in interest. Kraath was… odd. All Sy's instincts, new and old, told him the garrison commander was not a male to draanth with, but at the same time, he didn't give Sy the same feeling as other Izaeans he'd met. Like the reading was off, somehow, a compass not pointing to true north.
Isan frowned as he looked around. "Tanel? The ancient enemy? Don't be ridiculous. The Tanel have been dead for centuries. How would you even know that?"
"Ancient," the voice in the back of Sy's mind whispered. "Like us. Like the enemy."
"The legion knows you," Sy spoke up, his gaze hard on Kraath. "Would you like to explain why?"
Thank you so much for reading Banic!
I hope you loved reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
Sy's story will be the next book in the Alien Berserkers of Izaea series!
