Chapter 15

Ihead straight for Ana and throw myself at her, making sure she’s safe. Whoever is shooting at us is a poor shot, as they haven’t landed any. Either way, it’s imperative that we make it back into the safety of the clubhouse.

Looking around, trying to find my family members, I see Pops has his gun out. He’s covering Debs. Rhodie has Dayz covered and Jules and Tav are dotted about with their weapons drawn too. The MC brothers who came to watch the show are positioned around the shooting range and in various other places, everyone wired and alert to where the threat is coming from.

A whistle pierces the air and all our eyes dart to Marx. He raises one hand in the air, his finger pointed up, then circles it, meaning it’s time for us to all get the hell outta here. I glance at Ana, who stares at me with her wide green eyes and gives me a decisive head nod. We take off running toward the clubhouse, the MC brothers both out here and the ones that stayed behind in the clubhouse offering cover fire for those of us who are out in the open.

Fox and Nitro are standing in the doorway, covering us as Ana and I burst through. Fox grabbing Ana’s hand and pulling her behind him whilst not taking his eyes off of what’s happening outside. We hustle out of the doorway to make room for everyone else who has made it to safety and before long we are all in the common room, huffing, puffing and pissed as fuck.

“Why is it every time you Death Riders turn up, shit hits the fan?” Marx growls out before he tugs on his beard a couple of times. Savage is looking at least a little apologetic.

“I’m sick of this shit. We’re taking these fuckers out. Wire, SitRep now!” Marx bellows out, pounding a fist on the table in case someone was dumb enough to not be paying attention. Wire materializes from out of nowhere, his ever present laptop balanced on his forearm, the fingers on his other hand flying over the keys.

“Looks like Hammers crew. We got a group of them coming in hot on bikes. I’d say ETA is around 1 minute. Nothing to the back of the property that I can see, other than the one sniper stationed out there.”

“How many?” Savage asks.

Wire flicks through a couple of screens that show CCTV footage from the main road and various other parts of the compound.

“I’d say around 20 of ‘em. They’re splitting off into groups,”

“Fuck” Marx and Savage both curse out at the same time. It’s amazing how in sync these two are.

“Shit, they’re surrounding us, so we have to be smart. Everyone tool up. Brothers, outside in formation, ready for anything. Tombs, take point wherever you think we need it.” I give Marx a chin lift as Tav, Jules, Pops, Debs and Ana gather around me.

“Me, Dayz and Remy will have eyes on and keep you all updated. Make sure you all have your ear pieces in, it’s what they’re for.” Wire shouts out. Dayz darts off toward Switch’s room where Flack has been staying. Remy has not left her father’s side since he was shot. He may feel well enough to head home now, but being one of the older members means that his healing has taken longer than expected and he’s still needing a lot of rest.

The brothers all fiddle with their comms watches, putting their earpieces in, and it’s nice to know that even the Death Riders took advantage of the tech as well. It’s going to be the edge we need to fuck over these nomads. I watch as the MC brothers filter out of the common room, heading in different directions. My family is waiting for my instruction, Ana grabbing my hand and standing next to me, ready for anything and everything.

“Ooohhhh, are we gonna have a shootout? Yussss!” Debs pumps her fist a couple of times and, as disturbed as I am by her enthusiasm, I’m also glad that this woman isn’t panicking, or hell, even phased by what’s happening. A definite bonus is that she can shoot like a goddamn sharp shooter as well. I take a breath and then bark out my orders.

“Jules, with Tav on the roof,” I see Pops open his mouth, but I cut him off before he can argue with me. “Need you on the ground level with the rifle. You choose your cover. Got it?” Pops’ mouth slams shut, and he gives me a nod. Crazy old coot surely didn’t think I was going to send him up on the roof at his age. I watch as Debs follows him and I go to open my mouth, but before anything can come out, Ana covers it with her hand, shaking her head. She stares up at me, her eyebrows raised.

“Let her help. She’ll be fine,” I nod. There’s no time for me to wrangle the woman back in.

Looking down at my wife, I take note that she’s not in heels today.

“Changed into boots. Didn’t want to trudge to the shooting range in heels,” she shrugs at me.

“You’re not sitting this one out, are you?”

“Not a fucking chance, Tombs,”

I let out a long sigh, “Didn’t think so,”

She pecks me on the lips before asking, “Where do you want me?” I want her safe at home, but we all know that’s not happening.

“I want you in that tree on the fence line by the gate. I’ll cover you from the ground.” A smile splits her face and she tip-toes up to press a quick peck on my lips. Little does she know I did this for her safety. That tree is the least likely place to be hit, but it puts her in on the action. Gunshots split the air and me and my tiny wife step out of the clubhouse hand in hand.

“Remy! You’re with Wire and me. We need eyes on. That douchey Nomad MC is coming in hot!”

What? Jumping up from Dad’s bedside, I give his hand a quick squeeze before I run out of the room behind Tuesday, or Chewy, as the men call her. She throws the door open to Wire’s room and I’m hit with his spicy, smoky scent. Butterflies flap in my stomach, but his scent always soothes me.

Wire is not only incredibly lovely, and an amazing teacher, but he is also very beautiful. Today he has his hair tucked up into his beanie, but a few times since I’ve been here he’s worn his long curls out. I’ve wanted to touch them, but that’s incredibly personal and we aren’t those types of friends.

Chewy takes up her station and Wire breaks eye contact with his screens to turn and smile before pointing at the station he arranged for me. I take a seat, about to ask Wire if he has a picture of all our security cameras, but great minds must think alike because he hits a couple of keys and within moments the large screen above us flicks to life, showing us all the brothers have their comms on. We can see all their locations and their movements as well as live feeds from all the security cameras around the compound. It’s very impressive how many they have. Back home at the Death Riders compound, we only have four, one on each corner. Here, you can see almost every part of the land Devil’s Rose MC own. I’m sure that’s because of Chewy and her security business.

“Remy, you all good to monitor the front gate, parking lot and treeline?” I nod my head and then remember Wire and Chewy both have their eyes glued to their screens so they wouldn’t have seen me.

“Yes, yup. I can do that.”

“You’ll need to warn brothers through comms too, so make sure you use your firm voice, ok?” Wire looks at me with a kind smile on his face, encouraging me.

“Yes, I can definitely do this. I’ve got this, guys.”

“Of course you do, you’re a bad bitch!” Chewy holds out her knuckles for me to bump, not moving her eyes from the large screen. I gently bump my fist against her little one and it makes me smile.

“Gus, if Ana is being posted in the tree, tell her to get her ass in there now. These nomads are coming in hot, ETA 20 seconds max.” Chewy barks down her headset and I make a note to use that type of voice. It’s time I put my big girl panties on and be confident.

Devils Rose and Death Riders MC’s need me.
