Epilogue
"What?" I say into the phone. "We need to bring this onto a video chat." After a few seconds, my three sisters, January, February, and March, come into view.
"We have another sister."
"We do?"
"Yes. Her name is May. She reached out to us through the clinic. She wants to meet us. Are you in?"
"Of course. When?"
"Next week. Can you be in DC?"
"Yeah. I'll book a flight."
"Then it's settled. Now, what's going on with you and Ken?"
"Everything," I gush before telling them, well… everything. I am amazed at how easy it is to talk to them. They are virtual strangers, but they are my sisters, and that bond seems to go deep.
After the call, I pace the bathroom in my office, waiting for the pregnancy test I bought in secret last to give me a result. In my heart, I already know that it's positive. This is just a formality. Since Ken, who will always be Ken to me, started working from his own office down the hall, I've missed him like crazy.
"Are you okay, Miss April?" my new assistant, Kerry-Ann, asks, knocking on the bathroom door. Kerry-Ann was the VA Ken used while he was my assistant. I loved her work and convinced her to relocate to Boston to work for me in person. I was very convincing. The benefits package probably had something to do with it, too.
"Yes, but it's just April. What's up?"
"Mr. Roman would like to have lunch with you. Are you free?"
"Yes of course."
Finally, the timer on my phone goes off, and I look down. Positive. I smile and put my hands on my flat stomach. I knew it. I step out of the bathroom and almost crash into Terry.
"Sorry. He's waiting outside."
"Oh, okay. Send him in. Mr. Roman can come in at any time. He's my fiancé." I move around my desk and sit down.
"Of course. Sorry."
"No problem."
Terry leaves, and Ken comes in. God, he's so hot. I have to squeeze my thighs together to get from gushing all over the place.
"Hey, baby," he says, coming around my desk. He leans down and kisses me lingeringly.
"Hi. I've missed you."
"Since we left the house this morning?"
"Yes," I say, smiling.
"I missed you too."
"I have some news. I still need to confirm it, but I've had a positive pregnancy test. I know we haven't talked about children…"
I don't have a chance to say anything before he's got me on my feet and in his arms.
"You think I'd fuck you raw if I didn't want you bred?"
"Well, when you put it so romantically… I guess not."
"You're damn right. I've wanted you knocked up since the moment I met you."
"Really? All those months ago?"
"Yes. All. Those. Months. Ago." Each of his words is punctuated with a kiss.
"I love you, Ken."
"I love you too, baby. You've made me the happiest man in the world; you know that, don't you?"
"I know that now. Let me tell you about this fantasy I had when you were my assistant…"
