29. Tish
Chapter Twenty-Nine
Tish
I must've fallen asleep while Teddy was nursing. I came awake when I felt him being lifted away. I dragged my eyes open, about to insist on getting up.
Griffin brushed a kiss on my cheek. "I got him. Go back to sleep," he whispered.
That was the last thing I remembered.
The next morning, he changed Teddy's diaper again. I was still settling into my new routine of a morning rush.
It was remarkable the difference to have someone else there to scoop Teddy up and put him in his playpen when he started fussing. Someone to help tidy up in the kitchen. Someone to wash the dishes when I didn't ask. It was shocking really.
Once again, I found myself thanking Griffin when we walked outside. His eyes flashed with his smile before he bent low to give me a kiss. As he was lifting his head, we heard the sound of tires on gravel. We glanced over together to see Graham and Madison pulling in.
Madison's smile was wide as she hopped out of the truck. "Good morning!" she said a little too cheerfully.
I could feel my cheeks burning up. Griffin seemed far less ruffled by this. "Morning," he replied with a nod.
Graham grinned between us. "We were driving by, and Madison wanted to stop."
As usual, Madison's glossy dark hair looked perfect and casually styled, and her gorgeous green eyes were bright. She managed to effortlessly look beautiful. It had taken me a bit, but I'd gotten over being intimidated by her beauty. She was a wonderful friend and had made my life so much easier since it had been turned upside down.
She shrugged. "I'm just being nosy. I saw the truck here and Graham said it was Griffin's, so…" She waggled her brows.
I tried to keep from laughing, but it came out as a putter. "I actually have to get to work. You can be nosy all you want, but can I fill you in later."
Madison chuckled before glancing toward my car to see Teddy in his car seat. I hadn't closed the door yet. She hurried over to give him a smacking kiss on his cheek while he kicked his feet in joy.
Madison closed the car door for me. "How's work going?" she asked as I was slipping my keys out of my pocket.
"So far, so good."
"I'll be in touch with you soon. I handle all the accounts for the construction projects here. I'm so glad you can be my point person," she said. Madison was an actuary and accountant.
"That's what Archer told me. We'll make a time to connect."
She nodded. "You're coming to card night, right? Allie will babysit."
"Of course. When is that again?" I asked.
"Tonight. It's Friday in case you lost track." She winked.
After they drove off, Griffin paused beside me. "Are you okay about that?"
"You mean them knowing we have a thing. It's fine." I bit my lip as I looked up at him. "Are you okay with it?"
"I like you, Tish," he murmured. "Kind of a lot."
He kissed me, leaving me needy before I drove away.
Blessedly, my day was busy, busy, busy.
Even though I was still adjusting to not being with a baby all day and missing Teddy and wondering how he was doing, I was enjoying getting back in the swing of things. Rhys's new executive assistant seemed to be handling everything very well. He pinged me with questions here and there, but otherwise, I was able to focus on my new position.
Later in the afternoon, Griffin texted to see how I was doing and asked if he could see me that night. I reminded him about card night with my friends and told him he could come by after that.
Griffin: What time?
My belly flipped.
Me: Probably around nine.
Griffin: I'll be there.
I was biting my lip as I smiled at his return text. I almost had a syncope episode. I was feeling a little lightheaded when I realized I hadn't eaten lunch yet and got up too quickly from my desk. Thankfully, no one was around. I sat back down and fished out my emergency candy to give me a little hit of sugar. That and a hard-boiled egg snack were enough to tide me over.
