Chapter Twenty-Nine

Different Worlds

Once the laughter started, it quickly turned hysterical. All three women had tears streaming down their faces. And just when it was about to end, Kaitlyn stood up and ran for the bathroom, "I'm going to throw up." And the laughter started again. When she came back to the room, she settled into a chair and grinned at the others. "I'm mad at Viktal. But... I am also excited about the three of us being pregnant at the same time. I won't be as nervous as I would be if I were doing this alone."

Makayla shifted on the couch and got comfortable. "You're right. We need to be smart and think about this. I know there are things on Earth that we can order from the Guardians to make our life easier. Both while we are pregnant and when the babies get here. We'll have to see if we can figure it out. Better yet, I'll have one of the helpers send me a few catalogs."

Groaning, Lauren grabbed another cracker and held it up. "Get more of these. Then let's use the med bay to see if we can come up with something that helps with nausea. Daxter prattled on about things I should expect during my dragon-child pregnancy. I'll need to sit him down and get a detailed list. Maybe we all should do that with our mates."

Makayla nodded. "Good idea, honey. I had one conversation with Falcon where I asked him if there was anything I needed to know about being a Guardian's Keeper—that could cause problems or make a difference in my pregnancy? I wasn't happy with his answer, but we need to know everything."

Tilting her head, Kaitlyn frowned. "I didn't realize things could be different. What did Falcon say, Kayla?"

"He told me that because we chose to live on Megoth, both of our biological workings are set to the ruling class on this planet. It is one of the Guardian rules. Conception and pregnancy mirror the dominant life form. And because the ruling class is made up of dragons, that means my pregnancy will run similar to Lauren's. Except I won't be carrying a dragon-child, so there won't be additional hormonal changes giving me abilities like telepathy. But we'll both be pregnant for about twenty-three months, while Kaitlyn's pregnancy will be closer to twenty-six months—because that's how long Megoth Horde females carry."

Kaitlyn and Lauren both gasped. "Are you freaking kidding me?" they hollered in unison.

Makayla sighed. "Neither Viktal nor Daxter said anything?" When they shook their heads, she continued, "I guess they didn't realize what our pregnancies are like. Which, now that I think about it, makes sense. Why would they know what gestation timelines are for humans on Earth? We're from different worlds . Shit."

Kaitlyn narrowed her eyes. "What is it? You know something else, Kayla. Tell us what is going on," she demanded.

Moving over to her side, Lauren confronted her, too. "Kayla, if you know something, tell us. I don't have any idea what questions to ask. You've got to help us," she implored.

Makayla looked at them both. They were right. And she had been taking care of the two of them for far too long to turn everything over to their mates. She sighed. "Okay, I'll tell you what I know because I don't think your mates will think about it. To them... Megoth pregnancies and their births are normal. They don't know what pregnancy is like for an Earth woman." She reached out and took Lauren's hand. "Falcon told me that multiple births are the norm, single ‘pups' are rare."

The room went silent and then both Kaitlyn and Lauren started laughing.

"They call the babies... pups?" Lauren gasped.

Makayla nodded. "Yep." And giggled with them.

"So, I could have twins? And because you are tied to the rulers... you could have twins, too? I think I'd be okay with that." Lauren grinned.

Kayla shook her head. "It could be twins. Or more. I was so mad I didn't think to clarify. But hey, Daxter is an only child, right?"

Lauren frowned. "You know, I've never asked. I think he is. No one ever said anything about him having a brother or sister, and you'd think someone would mention it."

"What else?" Kaitlyn demanded. "You've got that look that tells me there is more."

Makayla now switched and took Kaitlyn's hand. "Falcon told me that not only is the gestation period for the Megoth horde a little longer, but the babies born to them have an average weight of nineteen pounds."

Kaitlyn crossed her legs, before hissing... "I am going to kill Viktal."

Her sister laughed, "That's what I said."

Lauren moaned, "Ouch..." Then snorted. "Did you ask how much dragon babies weigh when they are born?"

Kayla shook her head. "No. I missed that one. I guess that needs to be on the list."

Laughing again, Lauren managed to get out, "It's going to be a long list. I started feeling guilty for puking on Daxter and his dragon every chance I got. I didn't even try to miss. Now I'm glad I did it." She sounded so fierce, all three of them rolled with laughter.

All of a sudden, they heard someone banging on the small hatch. It was the easiest door to use for the outside.

Makayla glowered. She stood up and stomped toward the door. "If that is any of our men... I'm going to shoot them."
