30. Oliver
Chapter 30
Oliver
I was deep in paperwork when I heard Lexie scream.
I had been hiding in the office all night. I didn't want to see Lexie. Well, I did want to see her, but I knew she didn't want to see me. I didn't know how she would react or if she'd even talk to me. Things hadn't ended well between us the last time we spoke.
But as soon as I heard her scream, I jerked open the office door, running into the bar area as quickly as I could.
Dick had her around the waist, dragging her toward the door.
"Oliver!" she shouted.
I rushed Dick, grabbing his shoulder and shoving him off of Lexie. Lexie ran toward the bar, grabbing her phone and calling 911.
"You bastard," Dick said, throwing a punch, but he was too drunk, and it was easy to take him down. I pushed him to the ground, pulling his arm behind him. "You're going to break my arm!" he yelled.
"Then I guess you shouldn't treat women the way you do. "
"You got my fiancée pregnant," he scowled. "I should kill you."
"You can try," I replied as I sat on his back, not quite breaking his arm but causing tremendous pain. He yelped and tried to wriggle free but I was bigger than him. He was also inebriated so his reflexes weren't as quick.
The cops arrived in less than five minutes, the sheriff's office was just down the street.
Reese walked in ready with a pair of handcuffs dangling from his hand, the blue and red lights flashing brightly, hurting my eyes.
"I've got it from here, Ollie," Reese said flatly, and I stood up. Dick scrambled toward the back exit as soon as I got off him, but Reese ran him down, grabbing him and slamming him against the wall.
"You're being arrested for trespassing," Reese said. "You have the right to remain silent?—"
"And assault," I piped up, hurrying over to Lexie, who was sitting on a bar stool, trembling.
I put a hand on her arm, and she winced. A bruise was already forming where Dick had grabbed her.
"The baby?—"
"I'm okay," she said quickly. "He didn't touch me anywhere else, just my arm."
"We should go to the hospital just in case," I told her, and she nodded slowly.
"The doctor did tell me to avoid stress," she said with a dark chuckle.
"Our little girl will be fine," I said quickly, wanting to reassure her while my heart pounded out of my chest.
An ambulance arrived just a few moments after Reese. The dispatcher must have called both, and I was grateful .
I rode in the back of the ambulance with Lexie, taking her hand in mine.
"What if something is wrong?" she asked worriedly. "What if the stress?—"
"Everything is going to be just fine," I said firmly. "Don't even talk like that. The baby's going to be fine. You're going to be fine."
One good thing about living in a small town was that there wasn't much hospital traffic, and Lexie was in a hospital bed hooked up to monitors in no time.
She watched the fetal monitor with worry, biting her bottom lip. I reached over and gently rubbed her face.
"Strong heartbeat," I pointed out. "Just like before."
She nodded slowly, smiling slightly. "Thanks to you," she said softly.
"I'm just glad I was in the office." I frowned. "You're not allowed to be the last person in the bar ever again. In fact, I want you to quit."
She blinked at me. "Quit?"
"I want to take care of you," I said quietly. "You and the baby. I know that you don't want me?—"
"Oliver…"
I cut her off. "Look, you can stay living in the cabin, and I won't bother you. Just let me pay for everything, at least until after the baby's born. I know that you're proud, Lex, but please , let me do this."
She opened her mouth to speak but a doctor walked in, halting her words.
I turned, looking toward him, a hopeful expression on my face.
"Miss Tripp, everything seems to be in order here," he said in a no-nonsense tone. "You've got some bruises, but they'll heal, and nothing is fractured. The baby seems fine."
"Thank God," Lexie breathed. "I appreciate it, doctor."
He smiled. "Just take it easy. It might be a good idea to get off your feet for a few days."
Lexie nodded, and the doctor left.
"I'm serious, Lex," I told her. "I don't want you to work anymore."
"Okay," she said quietly, just as I was teeing up to argue some more.
"Wait, what? Okay?"
"Okay, Ollie," she said, smiling a little. "I'll quit. But you'll have a hard time finding someone as good as me to take my place," she said proudly, squeezing my hand.
"You're one of a kind, that's for sure," I murmured, bringing her hand to my lips, and kissing along her knuckles.
She kept smiling at me and I considered that a win. As much as I hated that asshole showing up and scaring her, I was relieved she was all right and glad she was talking to me. Glad she was letting me touch her.
The nurse came in with the discharge papers and I helped Lex get up and dressed. I wanted to carry her out to the car, but something told me she wouldn't allow that, so I just held her hand tightly, pulling her close to me.
"Take me home," Lexie said as we got into the car, and I nodded in agreement. When I pulled up to the cabin, however, Lexie didn't immediately get out when I opened her door.
"Lex?"
"Come inside," she said quietly. I helped her get out of the car and followed her wordlessly, having no idea what was going on.
She unlocked the door, and we went inside. I closed and locked it behind us .
Lexie turned to look at me then, her green eyes wide and wet with unshed tears.
"I'm sorry, Oliver," she whispered, the tears spilling out and down her cheeks.
"Oh, honey." I put my hands on her shoulders. "None of this was your fault. Not a single moment of it."
"Not just about tonight," she insisted, sniffling. "But... everything. I shouldn't have dismissed you when you told me how you felt. When you apologized."
"What are you saying?" I stuttered, hope starting to take flight in my stomach and chest. My heart clenched.
"I'm saying that I love you too, Ollie. I always have. I always will."
I searched her face, looking for any kind of hesitancy, and found none. She looked up at me with wide eyes.
"I forgive you for what happened back then. Can you forgive me for how I've acted lately?" she asked shakily.
"You're serious, Lex? You?—"
"I love you," she said fiercely. "I've always been in love with you since the moment we met. I never stopped. I thought about you every single day while we were apart?—"
I cut her off by grabbing the back of her head and pulling her close to kiss her passionately.
The kiss was rough and sudden, and when I touched her, my fingers barely touched her skin, only wanting to love her, to cherish her.
Lexie pulled away from me after a moment but when I started to protest, she took my hand with a small smile, leading me to the bedroom.
She began to undress slowly, and I couldn't help but admire her as the goddess that she was. I worshipped the ground she walked on. I loved her so much I didn't know what to do with it, didn't know how to say it .
"Lexie," I mumbled as she finally stood bare before me, her belly swollen, her breasts bigger than before. "You're so beautiful."
She flushed slightly, pouting, and pulling at my shirt. I took it off with one hand, already growing hard from the way she was looking at me.
Her hands went to my waistband, unbuttoning my slacks and unzipping them. She shoved her hand down my pants and groped me over my boxer briefs, and I moaned so loudly that if we had any close neighbor's, they surely would have heard loud and clear.
"Oliver," she crooned. "Make love to me."
Make love to me. Not I want you inside of me or anything crude, just... love.
I would show her how much I cared. How I worshipped her.
I let my slacks fall to the floor, stepping out of them along with my shoes, and Lexie sat down on the bed, watching me hungrily.
She hooked her thumbs into either side of my waistband and pulled down my boxer briefs, freeing me. I hissed as the cool air hit my heated erection, but soon enough she was taking me into her mouth. I froze, putting a hand in her hair gently.
She moaned, and I let her place her lips around me for just a few moments before I gently pulled away.
"You're going to make me come if you keep that up," I gasped. Lexie smiled wickedly.
She laid back on the bed, scooting up toward the headboard and spreading her thighs. I looked down at her, how she was glistening, and my mouth was nearly watering.
I slid between her legs but she leaned forward, grabbing at my shoulders .
"Not tonight," she said. "I just want you close, Ollie."
My heart warmed in my chest, and I covered her with my body, my erection pressing up against her hip.
"I've wanted this for so long," I murmured. "I don't know if I'll last long."
"Me either." And then she giggled, and it made me feel drunk, like her laughter was a drug that made my head spin.
I chuckled and moved to guide myself inside her. She locked her legs around my waist, her belly pressing up against my pelvis. I froze.
"This won't hurt the baby, will it?" I asked with a frown.
Lexie groaned. "Of course not. I've done my research. Sex is okay and often encouraged."
I laughed out loud. "I'm glad you've done your homework."
I slid into her, and she was so slick and hot it made the back of my neck tingle. I paused for a moment, looking down into her eyes, which were still brimming with tears, before I started to move.
Tears pricked at my own eyes when she let out a sob of my name.
"I love you so much," she managed, her voice shaky. I leaned down to kiss her softly as I started to roll my hips faster, chasing my orgasm, chasing how wonderful she made me feel.
It was like every part of me was on fire, and I couldn't help myself from kissing her again before moving my mouth to her throat, murmuring against her skin.
"You're the only woman I've ever loved, Lex. You're the only woman I'll ever love."
She sobbed out another moan. "I'm so close, Ollie, please, don't stop."
I didn't, moving faster and faster until my head felt like it might explode from the pleasure. Lexie began to clench around me, gasping in air, and soon enough, I was spilling inside her.
I moaned against her neck, not wanting it to be over, but Lexie was mewling out little moans and still clenching around me. It felt so good I kept moving inside her.
I started to harden again after just a few moments, and Lexie giggled. "Again?" She chided me.
I actually blushed. "We don't have to…" I stuttered, but she pulled me closer, lifting her hips up to pull me deeper inside of her.
"Shut up and love me," she whispered.
I moved slowly this time, kissing her neck, her shoulders, drawing back to give her swollen, sensitive breasts attention.
She arched off the bed when I drew her breasts into my mouth, one at a time, her fingers curling in my hair. "I didn't know pregnancy sex would be like this," she admitted, her breathing a bit rough.
"Like what?" I managed to reply, drawing closer to my release.
"So incredible," she told me, just before she orgasmed, her pussy clenching around me and causing me to tumble after her. I was shaking so hard I thought I might fall on her, but I managed to balance above her, enjoying the sight of her pleasure as my own orgasm flooded through me.
Overstimulated, I pulled out of her, lying next to her on the bed. She moved to curl into me immediately, putting her head on my chest.
"You're everything to me, you know that? You, Trent, and our little girl," I said fiercely, and she nodded against my chest.
"I know that now," she said. "I just wish I'd realized it a long time ago."
We laid there in silence for another long moment before I looked over and noticed she was biting her lip.
"What's wrong?"
"What if Trent hates me?" she asked. "What if he thinks I'm trying to replace his mother?—"
I cut her off. "Do you know what he asked me when I told him he'd have another brother or sister?"
She shook her head, still biting her lip.
"He asked me if that meant he'd have a mommy, too," I said, and Lexie's eyes filled with tears again.
"He did?"
I nodded. "And you'll be a wonderful mother, Lex. To both our children."
"You really think so?"
"I know so." I hugged her close to me.
I didn't know she had fallen asleep until she started snoring, and I couldn't help but chuckle in the back of my throat. She'd always snored like a trucker.
I fell asleep with the ease of a man who knew his life was perfect.
