Chapter 9
NINE
Cora
I wake up the next morning to Huxley moving stuff around in the closet.
“What are you doing?” I mumble as I rub the sleep from my eyes.
“Wanted to start this year off on the right foot,” he says over his shoulder.
“By…robbing me?” I guess and he laughs.
“I’m not stealing anything. I was just moving your clothes over to make room for mine.”
“Why?” I ask, still half asleep and feeling like I’m missing something.
“Cause I’m moving back in here with you. I don’t want to sleep apart anymore.”
I remember him telling me last night that he had moved out of the master bedroom so that I could have it because he didn’t want me anywhere but his bed, and I smile as I climb out of bed.
“What if I want the whole closet?” I ask him as I move closer and lean against the doorway to watch him.
“Do you? Do you have more clothes that we didn’t grab from the rental house?” He asks, looking around at the half-full closet.
“No, this is all of it. But what if I want to buy more? Then I’ll need the room.”
“I can move back to the other closet and –” he says, already grabbing his hangers to move back.
“I was joking!” I tell him before he can leave, and he blinks.
“It’s too early for jokes,” he grumbles, and I snort.
“You’re the one who got up at the crack of dawn to move.”
“It’s almost eleven,” he says, and my eyes widen as I turn to look at the clock.
“Whoa, I can’t remember the last time that I slept in this late.”
“Me either.”
“What do you want to do today?” I ask him. “Besides, move. Today is my last day off. It’s back to work tomorrow.”
“I was thinking about that,” he starts, and I narrow my eyes at him.
“I’m not quitting my job,” I tell him, and he shakes his head.
“Not quit, but change jobs.”
“To what?” I ask, crossing my arms over my chest.
“Come work for me. We need an accountant at Semper Fly. Plus, we could carpool, and you’d get to see Ginger more since Kip just hired her as his assistant.”
“And what happens if we break up?”
“We’re never breaking up. You’re it for me. It will always only be you, Cora. And before you say it, I’m never letting you go, either. I would do anything to make you mine, and I’ll do anything to keep you.”
“Alright,” I agree, and he raises an eyebrow at me.
“Alright, what?”
“Alright, I’ll come to work for you guys at Semper Fly. I need to put in my two weeks' notice, though.”
“Alright.”
I giggle, and he smiles down at me.
“I love you, Cora.”
“I know. I love you two, psycho.”
“You’re the only one who makes me crazy,” he whispers, and I smirk as his lips land on mine.
His kiss is filled with so much promise for our future and I smile as I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him back, trying to pour all of my love and hopes for the future with him into it.
“We’re getting married,” he announces against my lips and I laugh.
“Not today.”
“Soon,” he grumbles, and I nod.
“Soon.”
He kisses me again, and I jump up, wrapping my legs around him.
“Now, I’ll help you move back into this room in a little bit, but there’s something that I wanted to do first,” I tell him and he smirks.
“What’s that?” He asks, already walking back towards the bed, his hard cock rubbing me through his boxers.
“Come back to bed, and I’ll show you,” I whisper, and he kisses me as we both fall down onto the mattress.
Then, the two of us get started making this year the best year yet.
