Epilogue

T hree Weeks Later

“I’ve been to two weddings with you in just four months. How many more are there going to be?” Easton asked three weeks later when they got back to her place after Daisy and Theo were married.

“Who knows?” she said. “I’m sure Aster’s when he sets a date. Dahlia and Sage are the only ones not married, but I’m positive Dahlia isn’t going to do anything big.”

“Most of my friends are married,” he said. “Not that I mind, but I’m not used to putting suits on anymore.”

“You look so sexy in them though,” she said, running her hand up the front of his light pink shirt. He had a gray suit on, no tie. He’d ditched that. Theo’s wedding was a little fancier, his parents going all out.

When Laurel walked out of her bathroom in a dress almost the same color as his shirt, they both started to laugh. It hadn’t been planned.

Neither had he planned on falling in love this fast and this hard.

“I could say the same about you in that dress.”

“Are the shoes staying?” she asked.

“If you want,” he said. “But in a minute. I’ve got to ask you something first.”

“Okay,” she said, looking confused. “What?”

“Do you love me?”

She smiled. “Of course I do. Do you love me?”

“Absolutely,” he said. “What do you think about timelines when it comes to love?”

“I think there is no such thing,” she said. “What I feel for you is so much stronger than for anyone else I’ve ever been with. I felt this way months ago.”

“The same,” he said, dropping down on one knee. “I don’t want to wait any longer.”

“Oh my God,” she said. “Are you asking me to marry you?”

“I am,” he said. “I asked your father first. He said yes.”

“Holy shit,” she said. “He did?”

Easton frowned. “Did you think he wouldn’t?”

“No, I knew he would, but I’m surprised he didn’t say anything about how fast this is. I mean I told him I was taking my time, but the truth is, I don’t really want to.” She was all but dancing around in place.

“He did. But he asked how much I loved you and I said there was no measurement. I just knew that I couldn’t be without you another day. He said that was the answer he was hoping for and gave his blessing. I know that means the world to you.”

“It does,” she said. “Let me see this ring.”

He laughed and opened it.

“Did Rose make that ring?”

“She did. I put a rush on it.” He pulled the two-carat solitaire out. There were two laurel flowers almost like a cup, one on each side with a pink diamond inside of them.

“That is stunning,” she said, squealing. “And so girly.”

“Just like you,” he said, sliding it on her finger. “I love you with every part of my being. I was honest when I told your father I can’t go another day without making you mine. Not in possession but to just make me whole. I’ve never felt like I do with you. It’s because a part of me was missing.”

She started to sniffle. “That is the most romantic thing ever.”

“I didn’t even rehearse it,” he said, laughing. “You didn’t answer me.”

“Yes!” she shouted. “Of course it’s yes.”

Laurel pulled him up and hugged him hard. He lifted her and spun her around the room.

“What made you ask me now? Tonight? Did the wedding get to you?”

“This is corny. The first time we met, we weren’t anything close to being dressed up. I thought it’d be ironic if I asked you to marry me dressed like an attorney considering how you felt about them or me at first.”

She laughed. “Not corny. We’ll have one interesting story to tell our future kids.”

“Yes, we will,” he said, spinning her one more time. “Promise me one thing.”

“Anything,” she said.

“Never make my life comfortable.”

“Never!”

The End!
